New Patients - Your First Appointment

The purpose of your initial visit is to perform a complete evaluation of your health. There is some initial paper work that we'll need of your basic information. Then, you'll sit down with one of our doctors to review your health history from past to present. A physical exam will also be done to assess and diagnose your current condition. In most cases treatment can start on the first visit. We will explain what treatment you will receive and how long you will need it.

Health exists when every part of your body is functioning properly. True health can only occur if your brain can communicate, uninterrupted, with the rest of your body, tell it what to do, and when to do it. Maintenance of good health and a high quality of life depends upon the body's natural ability to continually adapt to changes in its environment. Ensuring this capability is one of nature's most remarkable and complicated communication networks, the Central Nerve System.

Chiropractors are not limited to treating just the spine. In fact, chiropractors treat every joint in the body as well as many other conditions involving them such as muscle strains and joint sprains. Chiropractic can help with many different conditions from arthritis and stenosis to sports and repetitive stress injuries and many more.

Cox® Technic

Cox Technic is non-surgical, doctor-controlled, hands-on spinal manipulation performed with the patient lying on The Cox Table, a proprietary, specially designed chiropractic instrument. This table permits the effective administration of flexion-distraction and decompression adjustment and manipulation.

Well-researched and documented, flexion-distraction and decompression helps relieve spinal pain and return patients to their desired quality of life by:

  • dropping intradiscal pressure to as low as -192mm Hg
  • widening the spinal canal foraminal area by 28%
  • reducing pressure on the spinal nerves
  • returning motion to the spinal joints

The goal of Cox Technic is to help the spinal pain patient go from "pain" to "no pain" as quickly as possible following the "rule of 50% which governs the Cox Technic System of Spinal Pain Management. Visit the Cox Technic website to learn more.

Laser Therapy

Walkerville Chiropractic has been using the Theralase laser system since 2005. The TLC-1000 is a super-pulsed, dual-wavelength, nine- laser/laser-diode system. It's not your average laser. Its clinical applications range from sports injuries to pain relief and arthritis. Common uses include Achilles' tendinitis/tendinosis, arthritis pain and inflammation, ankle sprains, knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tendinitis, frozen shoulder, golfer's elbow/tennis elbow, lower back pain, sciatica, sinusitis, faster wound and scar healing.

The Theralase laser emits photons which stimulate injured or damaged tissue (photobiostimulation). Some of the effects at the cellular level are: decreased prostaglandin formation (decreasing pain); increased production of ATP (the basic source of energy for cells); increased production of endorphins and enkephalins (pain relief); increased production of immune system killer cells (boosts immune system function); increased cellular proliferation (faster healing); increased collagen and cartilage formation and epithelial tissue.

Some benefits of laser therapy include:

  • Decreased Inflammation - studies have shown that within 2 hours after laser therapy that the inflammation begins decreasing.
  • Decreased Pain - Pain, acute or chronic, begins to decrease within minutes and continues to decrease, due to the continued effect of photobiostimulation up to 3 days, even with the first treatment.
  • Increased Healing - Wounds, sprained ligaments and joints, and strained muscles and tendons heal faster than without laser treatment.
  • Tissue Regeneration - Lasers have been proven to help regenerate damaged tissue (nerves, collagen, cartilage).

Theralase Laser FAQ

Does it hurt?

No. The laser is painless. Most people don't feel a thing. You may be seated or laying down for treatment.

How long is the session?

The typical laser session lasts only 15 minutes.

How many visits will I need?

Most people respond to treatment within one to six treatments. After that, it's up to you how many more you'll need.

Does my insurance cover it?

Most extended health benefits cover Chiropractic care and therefore usually do cover laser therapy. A quick call to your insurance company can be made on your first visit to verify your coverage.

Are there any harmful side effects?

There are no harmful side effects to laser therapy when performed properly. The laser should not be directly shined into the eyes due to the concentrated beam of light. It should not be used over the abdomen of pregnant women or overtop any neoplasmic (cancerous) tissue.
